A lot of you are in international relationships, and some of you are already thinking about the paperwork side of being together. So we made something we wish had existed when we started.
The video above walks through Form I-129F, the Petition for Alien Fiancé(e), section by section. It covers what each part is asking, the details people tend to mix up, and the small mistakes that can lead to delays or a request for more evidence.
A few things worth knowing before you start:
The I-129F is filed by the U.S. citizen partner, not the fiancé(e).
You generally need to have met in person within the two years before filing, so keep proof of that visit.
Always download the current edition and instructions straight from uscis.gov. Editions change, and old ones can get rejected.
This is educational, not legal advice. Every case is different, and a licensed immigration attorney is the right call if your situation is complicated.
We also have a K-1 & Spouse Immigration room here in the community. If you're going through this process, or you already have, that's a great place to ask questions and compare notes with people who get it.
Question for you: where are you in the process right now? Just starting to research, gathering documents, or already waiting on USCIS?
With love, Mia and Monami
